  • Shri D Radhakrishna Reddy, Member representing the State of Andhra Pradesh.

    Shri D Radhakrishna Reddy hails from farming community. He holds a degree in Arts from Sri Venkateswara University and studied law in V R Law College, Nellore. He was Sarpanch of the Gram Panchayat, Mypad and Vice President of the Panchayat Samithi, Indukurpet having 60 Gram Panchayats during the eighties. He also served as President, Mandal Parishad, Indukurpet from 2001 to 2004. During this period he undertook several development activities in the area and also worked for the upliftment of the rural poor, particularly the fisher community. He was appointed as Member of the Food Corporation of India in 2001 for a term of 2 years.
     

    Shri Reddy was elected as President of the Nellore District Prawn Farmers Welfare Association in 1997 and in 2003 as President of the Andhra Pradesh State Prawn Farmers Welfare Association and is continuing in the posts. During 2004, he visited China and Thailand under a Technical Cooperation Programme of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations along with the officials of the Government of Andhra Pradesh for studying the latest technology in shrimp culture.

    Shri Radhakrishna Reddy is a member of the Coastal Aquaculture Authority since 22 December 2005.

     

  • Shri Ajitsinha B Patil, Member representing the State of Maharashtra.

    Shri Ajitsinha Bajirao Patil hails from a farmer community in Marathwada region of Maharashtra. He is a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from Karnataka University and a postgraduate in Mechanical Engineering from Mumbai University. He started his career as a design engineer with an automobile manufacturer. Before joining the field of aquaculture in 1990, he worked as a full time social worker for a few years. He was Managing Director of Pancham Aquaculture Farms Ltd., Mumbai, a joint sector company in Maharashtra, for about 14 years. At present, in addition to his other assignments, he looks after all the technical matters including R & D activities at Pancham.
     

    Shri Patil took a months training in aquaculture at Taiwan Fisheries Research Institute, Keeling, Taiwan in 1994. He has extensively traveled to Mainland China, Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia and Hong Kong to study aquaculture. He is chairman of the Maharashtra Aquaculture Farmers’ Association since its inception and also a member on the Management Committee of the Central Institute of Brackish water Aquaculture, Chennai.

    Shri Patil is a member of the Coastal Aquaculture Authority since 22 December 2005.


    • Dr R Paul Raj, Member Secretary appointed by the Central Government

    Dr. R. Paul Raj was appointed as Member Secretary of the Coastal Aquaculture Authority by the Central Government and took charge on 1st May 2008. He holds a Master’s Degree in Marine Biology from Annamalai University and Ph.D. Degree in Marine Biology from the University of Madras. He has over 31 years of experience in the Agricultural Research Service of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ARS, 1976) and worked as Scientist S-1 at the Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Senior Scientist (Associate Professor) at the Centre of Advanced Studies in Mariculture (CMFRI), Scientist-in-Charge of the Madras Research Centre of CMFRI, Principal Scientist and Head of the Divisions of Physiology, Nutrition and Pathology, and Fisheries

    Dr R Paul Raj

    Resources Assessment, and Head of the Post-Graduate Programmes at CMFRI, Kochi. He also served as Member Secretary of the Research Advisory Committee and Chairman of the Consultancy Processing Cell at CMFRI, and Member in the Management Committees of CMFRI and CIBA.


    He has also served as Member in the Academic Council of the Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Mumbai, Member of the Board of Studies in Mariculture (CIFE), Board of Studies in Aquaculture ( University of Madras), Board of Studies in Fisheries ( Kerala Agricultural University), and Member of the Marine and Inland Fisheries Advisory Board ( Govt. of Tamil Nadu). He has substantial contributions to Aquaculture in the Country through his research, teaching and field-outreach programmes. He has guided 15 Ph.D. students (9 as Major Advisor and 6 as Co-Chairman). He has published more than 100 research and technical papers including a Hand Book on Aquaculture Feed published by the MPEDA during 1993 and Reprinted during 1995 and 1997. He has Directed Four Summer/Winter Schools at CMFRI in the Areas of Aquaculture Nutrition, Disease Management, and Marine Biotechnology. He was the Co-ordinator of the 8th Asian Fisheries Forum, the greatest Fisheries Event held in India at Kochi during November 2007. By his inspiring leadership he has mentored many of his colleagues and students to become highly successful in their endeavours.
