The current composition of the Coastal Aquaculture Authority is as follows:

 
  • Dr.Justice A K Rajan, Chairman.
  • Dr Justice A K Rajan was born on 25 January 1943 in Silukkuvarpatti Village, Dindigul District, Tamil Nadu. He obtained the degree of Bachelor of Science (Physics) from Madras Christian College, Tambaram in 1965; Bachelor of Law from Madras Law College in 1968 and Master of Law (Constitutional Law and International Law) from the University of Madras in 1974.

     

    He practiced Law before the High Court of Judicature at Madras from 1968 and also served as part-time Junior Professor in Madras Law College from 1976 till he was directly appointed as District and Sessions Judge in 1987. After heading the judiciary in various districts such as Dindigul, Trichy, Sivagangai and Madurai, he was deputed as Law Secretary to the Government of Tamil Nadu from 1996 to 1999. As Law Secretary, Justice Rajan drafted many important bills; some of them were first of its kind, which later became Law. When serving as District and Sessions Judge, Salem, he was elevated as Judge of the Madras High Court, in September 2000. Justice Rajan retired in January 2005.

    Justice Rajan is the Chairman of the Coastal Aquaculture Authority since on 06 January 2006.

    He was conferred with the Honorary Doctorate in Law by the University of Madras in its 150th Annual Convocation held in November 2007.
     

  • Dr A G Ponniah, Member (expert in the field of coastal aquaculture).
  • Dr AG Ponnaiah joined as Director, CIBA on 26 April 2006. He holds a masters degree in Marine Biology from Annamalai University and Ph.D in Zoology from Madurai Kamaraj University. He joined the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Cochin as Scientist (S-1) in August 1978. In October 1988, he joined the National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (NBFGR) at Lucknow. Dr Ponnaiah served as Acting Director of NBFGR from October 1996 and was appointed as regular Director of the Bureau in February 1997.

    In December 2001, he joined the World Fish Centre (WFC) at Penang, Malaysia as Programme

    Leader of the Biodiversity and Genetic Resources Research Programme and later served as the Discipline Director of Aquaculture and Genetic Programme at the WFC and also the Coordinator of International Network of Genetics in Aquaculture. Dr Ponnaiah specializes in genetic characterization, gene banking, fish germplasm conservation and aquaculture.

    Dr Ponniah is a member of the Coastal Aquaculture Authority since 25 August 2006.

  • Shri P Madeswaran, Member (expert in the field of coastal ecology and nominated by the Ministry of Earth Sciences (former Department of Ocean Development), Government of India
     


     

     

     

     

  • Dr A Senthilvel, Member (expert in the field of environment protection and nominated by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India).

  •  
    Dr Senthilvel is a member of the Coastal Aquaculture Authority since 13 December 2006.
