A. Composition of the Authority

In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-sections (i) and (3) of Section 4 of the Coastal Aquaculture Authority Act, 2005, the Central Government established the Coastal Aquaculture Authority vide Notification No. S.O. 1803 (E) dated 22 December 2005. The head office of the Coastal Aquaculture Authority is located at Chennai, Tamil Nadu and Justice A K Rajan (Retired Judge of the Madras High Court) is the chairperson of the Authority. The Coastal Aquaculture Authority consists of the following members, who are appointed by the Central Government for a term of three years:

(i)

A sitting or retired judge of the High Court  Chairperson
(ii) An expert in the field of aquaculture  Member
(iii) An expert in the field of ecology  Member
(iv) An expert in the field of environment protection or pollution control  Member
(v) A representative of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Central Government  Member
(vi) A representative of the Ministry of Commerce of the Central Government  Member
(vii) Fours members to represent the coastal States on rotation basis  Member
(viii) One member to be appointed by the Central Government  Member Secretary

B. Constitution of the Authority

The Central Government constituted the Coastal Aquaculture Authority on 22 December 2005 [vide Notification No S.O. 1830 (E)] with the following members:
